"Being in tune with your dog is not all about training: it's about understanding the dog's needs, and providing direction and protection" - Cesar Millan
About Michael Bylo
I started working with The BC SPCA in 2009, in order to gain the hours of experience required to apply to Veterinary school. While working there, I quickly discovered a huge problem in the shelter system, which caused me to re-think my path.
Almost all of the dogs that ended up at the shelter were either surrendered because of their behaviour, or they developed behavioural problems from being in the shelter system. In my few years there, I witnessed countless dogs get euthanized because of behaviour that could not be corrected by their "positive only" training, and completely preventable situations created by well-meaning staff members.
My absolute frustration and disgust caused me to re-think my path.
In 2012, I attended extensive training learning alongside Cesar Millan, Cheri Lucas, Martin Deeley and Brian Agnew at the Dog Psychology Center in Santa Clarita, California. In 2013, I attended more training with Cheri Lucas and Brian Agnew at the beautiful Second Chance at Love Humane Society Ranch in Templeton, California. I've been working with dogs ever since, with the intention to prevent as many dogs as I can from getting surrendered to shelters and subsequently euthanized.
I live in Surrey, B.C. with my wife, our two children, and our beautiful dogs.
